Astronomy

Using binoculars and telescopes to study the night sky is a hobby that can give hours of enjoyment. Using binoculars means no set up time, helping to make the most of those short breaks in the cloud cover. A telescope adds extra magnification to bring out more detail on the moon and planets.

The Opticron product range does not currently includes telescopes with altazimuth or equatorial mounts and that can use 1.25" or 2" push-fit astronomy eyepieces. Our fieldscopes, travelscopes and spottingscopes are all suitable for casual observation of lunar and planetary objects. The fixed focal length HDF eyepieces offer higher magnifications of over 100x when used with the larger aperture scopes in the range.

    Binocular Astronomy

Using binoculars to view the night sky is probably the best option for a beginner astronomer. The wide field of view and hand-held nature of this type of astronomy make finding objects simple, with no complicated equipment to set up. For longer observing sessions, a tripod mount and tripod or monopod are useful.

    Astronomy Telescopes

Using a fieldscope, spottingscope or travelscope for casual astronomy can deliver exciting, high magnification views of lunar and planetary objects. At lower magnifications, some other astronomical objects can also be viewed but these will typically require a specialist equatorial or alt-azimuth mounting system.
